11-5 and NO PLAYOFFS

As a Patriots Fan I find this totally unacceptable when a 8-8 team is in from the NFC who we JUST TOTALLY DESTORYED/EMBARRASED/DEMORALIZED last week, and a 8-8 team from the AFC West that started 4-8 gets in...

KC for the last few years has wanted playoff expansion to 8 teams. I'm not willing to go that far but this is the playoff system I'd propose

6 teams from each conference UNLESS

- A team outside the playoffs has won 3 more games than a team that makes it from either conference, the playoffs shall be expanded in the conference that has the bad team in to include the team from the other conference.

For example this year the playoffs would look like this.

AFC would stay the same (BAL/Mia, IND/SD with Pitt playing best seed remaining, Ten the worst

NFC would be like this

1. Giants 1st round bye

2. Carolina plays #7 Philadelphia

3. Minnesota plays #6 Falcons

4. Arizona plays #5 New England

Highest remaining team hosts 2nd round game with Giants playing lowest seed, and the other team going to the highest Wild Card seed.

This way the conference with the bad teams in the playoffs gets penalized by losing a 1st round bye.

- I wouldn't be opposed to the AFC team having to be the #7 seed, except I find that being horribly unfair to a team that finished 2nd in its conference

- Barring the Pats from a home-game under any situation could also be acceptable modification

The reality is this, if the Yankees went 110-50 in the AL East and didn't make the playoffs, the uproar would be huge and changes would be made...

Its time to make the changes here too.

Power Rankings: Week 12

Last week's rankings in parenthesis
*This will be updated when the Sunday and Monday night games are finished.*

1. New York Giants (1)
- Told you they were number 1. They just beat a VERY good Cardinals team.
2. Tennessee Titans (2)
- They're vulnerable when they can't run. But everyone is allowed a stinker or two every once in a while. That's what makes the NFL so much better than college football. But they need to hold onto the ball longer than 19 minutes a game. Any defense, even the #1 defense in the league, can't have energy after being on the field for 40:30. Yikes.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (5) - Just like Tampa, they took care of business against a down team. Big Ben kept the ball safe, and kept himself upright, which is an improvement
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6) - Warrick Dunn is pretty good, and Jeff Garcia's effeciency will take this team far. They took care of business against the Lions this week. Nothing really stands out against Detroit, but they won handily. That's all you need against a down team. The Bucs are the quietest dominant team in the NFL.
5.
New York Jets (10) - Heck of a win. This team's running defense might be one of the most underrated in the league. They did everything right in this game. Like I said last week, Brett Favre is one of the best leaders and game-managers in the league. Movin' up!
6. Indianapolis Colts (4) - xx
7. Carolina Panthers (3) - Maybe their defense isn't as good as I thought they were...
8. Atlanta Falcons (7) - they just dropped 48 on a very good Panthers defense. My god is Michael Turner good...and Matt Ryan continues to play mistake-free football. He's only thrown 6 picks in 11 games. When you have receivers and running backs like he does, that's all he's gotta do. O yeah, and he averages just under 200 yards a game, and has a rating just under 90.
9. Baltimore Ravens (11) - A great bounce-back game, they ripped the Eagles into tiny pieces, chewed them up, spit them out, and stepped on them. They pretty much ended the Eagles' season and are responsible for sparking a Donovon McNabb saga that is sure to continue for a while. This is bigtime win, and tells me the loss to the Giants might be just a blip.
10. Arizona Cardinals (8) - This team is really good. They were competitive against the number 1 team in the league. However, they rely WAY too much on the pass, and that hurts them. When they need to match a high-powered offense, the best way to do it is to keep them off the field...A.K.A run the ball. When Larry Fitzgerald and Anquon Boldin and Steve Breaston all don't reach 100 yards, the team is going to lose. If they could get a running game...wow.
11. Washington Redskins (9) - It'd be great to beat one of the bottom 3 teams by more than 3 points...but a win's a win, just gotta get that W. An efficent game by Jason Campbell, and Clinton Portis punched in with 143 yards...just another day in the office for him. This team is very good. But they need to score more points with 38.5 minutes of the football to beat really good teams.
12. Dallas Cowboys (16)
- Romo is back, and so are the Cowboys' playoff hopes. This is a good team again. He's got a Tom Brady-like effect. But their defense can't give up 22 points to San Fran.
13. New England Patriots (17) - Matt Cassel!! Woo!! Offensive explosion. Their defense isn't what it used to be, but Miami's offense is a lot better than what it used to be too. A good win for the Pats, they need all they can to keep up with the much-improved Jets.
14. Green Bay Packers (15) - xx
15. Minnesota Vikings (14)
- Nice job stickin it to the Jags. This team could be so much better if Adrian Peterson got more than 17 carries.
16. Miami Dolphins (12) - A tough loss, the defense just fell apart against the Patriots receivers, like so many other defenses have. But this offense is good. They're obviously falling in the rankings after losing by 20. But don't count them out yet.
17. Denver Broncos (13) - This is the most inconsistent team in the NFL. They've beaten the Bucs and Chargers, and they've lost to the Jags and the Dolphins. Here's the best part: Week 1: Denver 41, Oakland 14; Week 12: Oakland 31, Denver 10. What?? I honestly can't figure out where to put this team. I'm dropping them because they have more bad losses than good wins.
18. Buffalo Bills (20) - 51 points?! Wow. Gonna have to keep KC from scoring 31 in the future. But this was a heck of a showing. It helps when the other team coughs the ball up 6 times too...but the defense deserves credit for that too. This team could be back to beginning-of-the-season form.
19. New Orleans Saints (19) - xx
20. San Diego Chargers (21) - xx
21. Chicago Bears (22) - Good work taking care of the Rams. The defense did it's part, that's for sure. And how good is Matt Forte? Answer: very. Kyle Orton is also doing his part to not mess up, which Rex Grossman failed at. He was good, but he shot himself in the foot. Orton is avoiding doing that.
22. Philadelphia Eagles (18) - They just benched Donovon McNabb. What?? This team is spiraling down into they bottomless abyss. Their coach stinks, their quarterback is playing like crap and is mad now, their backup quarterback is mad. But WHY is Andy Reid benching McNabb? That's not what your team needs! Cris Collinsworth is absolutely right, this move closes the book on McNabb's days in Philly.
23. Houston Texans (25) - Rosenfels had an ok game, but he's WAY too mistake prone. 2 more picks compared to only 1 TD.
24. Cleveland Browns (24) - They lost to the Texans. DROP! Brady Quinn's first ugly game. Is he the answer?
25. Jacksonville Jaguars (23) - Another week, another loss, another NFL expert scratching their head wondering what happened to the Jags this year. It's rough...I couldn't give you the answer.
26. Oakland Raiders (28) - Where did this win come from? Just as I say their offense stinks, they drop a 41-spot on Denver. Granted Denver's defense is nothing to be impressed with....but STILL! It's nice to see some kind of promise from a bad team.
27.
Kansas City Chiefs (31) - Taylor Thigpen and co. scored 31 points, but 6 turnovers? This team is still really bad. Gotta change that. However, they're beginning the slow process towards moving up.
28. Seattle Seahawks (30) - Competative against Washington. They're still bad.
29. San Francisco 49ers (26) - Here's what I said last week: "Bottom line: their defense stinks." I rest my case this week.
30. Cincinatti Bengals (27) - Last year the whole team was in jail, this year the whole team is in the doctor's office. Another week, another loss.
31. St Louis Rams (29) - Keith Obermann on the Bears-Rams highlights: "Now the Bears and the Rams....well, really just the Bears." Story of the Rams season. They stink. They amounted a meager 14 rushing yards against Chicago. That's right. 1-4.
32. Detroit Lions (32) - Think Culpepper could have been the answer? WRONG. This team has a legitimate shot at an 0-16 season. You don't believe me? Look at their schedule. Where's the win?

Power Rankings - Week 11

1. New York Giants - This team ran a rushing train (namely Brandon Jacobs) on the #2 rushing defense team in the league in Baltimore. This offensive line and rushing attack is no question the best in the league. They will keep this up for a long time.
2. Tennessee Titans
- Came from behind win after being down 14-3 at halftime, this team has it all. The rushing, the passing, and the stifling defense.
3. Carolina Panthers - Jake Delhomme isn't going to put up the numbers. But their defense is great, and they're running game is also impressive. DeAngelo Williams is one of the fastest, most explosive players in the NFL.
4. Indianapolis Colts - Sue me for putting them this high since they're only 6-4, but they are back to normal form. Peyton Manning FINALLY looks like his old self. I knew it would happen, but it took a lot longer than normal for them to get here.
5. Pittsburgh Steelers - Still haven't done enough to impress me enough to break the top 4, and since their loss to the Giants I feel like they are regressing a little. But they don't have a very bad loss on their resume so I can't kill them for it. However, beating a struggling San Diego Chargers team 11-10 isn't very impressive.
6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Beat a pretty good Minnesota Vikings team today, holding Adrian Peterson under 100 yards, which says something right there. Garcia was incredibly efficient and this team impresses me more and more this week, despite a few blips.
7. Atlanta Falcons - they lost to a talented but inconsistent Broncos team today, but I still think Matt Ryan is already one of the better QB's in the league and Michael Turner is a star. That offense really, really impresses me. Plus I really like their jerseys...
8. Arizona Cardinals
- Kurt Warner keeps shutting up those little voices in my head that appear every week telling me he's too old to be effective. 395 yards today, albeit against an underacheiving Seattle defense. Then again, with those wide receivers and Tim Hightower, I could probably look effective.
9. Washington Redskins
- Fell a few spots in my book today after a tough divisional loss to the Cowboys. Dallas isn't done, but the Redskins should have beat them. Nonetheless, Jim Zorn has done an excellent job with this team and they're good enough to be in the top 10.
10. New York Jets - Brett Favre, despite his sometimes mind-boggling throws, is a heck of a leader. And he's having an effect not only on the offense but the defense as well. However, they need to not stop playing after the first half, or else they might have lost that game on Thursday.
11. Baltimore Ravens - Showed their defense is vulnerable against a top rushing team, but they're still one of the best in the league. Joe Flacco is impressive, I thought he was going to be an absolute bust. I clearly was wrong, but he's still a rookie, and he's still making rookie mistakes.
12. Miami Dolphins - The only reason they're ranked this high: Chad Pennington. I guess this is the year of the surprising quarterback play? Notify the Chinese calendar.
13. Denver Broncos - This team has the talent to be in the top 5 in the league, and the inconsistency to be...well...13th.
14. Minnesota Vikings - Adrian Peterson is nasty. Why did he only get 19 carries in a 19-13 game, none coming in the 4th quarter?? Makes no sense to me.
15. Green Bay Packers - See "Denver Broncos" and replace 13 with 15
16. Dallas Cowboys - This team had some difficulties with injuries, distractions, and other issues. One Cowboys beat writer told me before the Giants game that the entire week, not once did he actually focus on the upcoming game. With some of those now past the team, they picked up a huge win over the Redskins. One more win like that and the team will rocket up this list.
17. New England Patriots - Matt Cassel isn't as bad as I thought he would be. I shoulda known, I mean, he IS learning from Tom Brady every day...However, for some reason, Tom Brady's absence has effected the defense more than it has the offense up to this point.
18. Philadelphia Eagles - This team is so iffy, and has so many question marks. One of them being why they can't beat a 1-8 Bengals team. They just didn't want this game enough. Are they giving up on Andy Reid?
19. New Orleans Saints - Has the quarterback to win 16 games a season, but the injuries are piling up. Injured or not, many people are giving up on Reggie Bush. I'm not one of them. Yet.
20. Buffalo Bills - Sure a fall from about 4 weeks ago. They're showing the league how mediocre this team really is. But don't count them out, they also showed the league how explosive they can be in the first few weeks. I don't think that was a fluke.
21. San Diego Chargers - Were competative against Pittsburgh, but they can't seem to get their offense and defense to come together on the same day. This team is the 2nd biggest disappointment in the NFL. Continue reading to find the first...
22. Chicago Bears - Their thrashing at the hands of the Packers is just embarassing. Totally and utterly embarassing.
23. Jacksonville Jaguars - If they had beaten the undefeated Titans, they could have saved their season. But at this point, after going narkaleptic in the 2nd half of that game, it's all but over. I think this team is the biggest disappointment in the league.
24. Cleveland Browns - I hate ranking a 3-6 team this high, but Brady Quinn is injecting a bit of life into this team. I like what I see from him.
25. Houston Texans - Sage Rosenfels? Blech. This team needs to regroup for next year. They miss Matt Schaub. So do I.
26. San Francisco 49ers - I can't figure this team out. Frank Gore is their only offensive weapon, and they have a few very good defensive players. After that, their whole team is a bunch of journeymen. They need to get some more young talent and go from there.
27. Cincinatti Bengals
- Took another injury when Antonio Chatman was carted off the field today. They were competative against a pretty good Eagles team, but just didn't have the desire to win to pull away from the clutches of the tie.
28. Oakland Raiders - Their offense absolutely stinks. Enough said. I can smell them from here.
29. St Louis Rams - I almost put them even further down after losing by 19 to the 49ers. But they still have a few bright spots, whereas every team under them has none. One of them is Chris Long, who should in my mind win Defensive ROY.
30. Seattle Seahawks - Their game with the Cardinals showed how fixing their defense is going to be their number 1 offseason priority. Having Matt Hasselbeck and Deion Branch back made no difference in their win total.
31. Kansas City Chiefs - The Larry Johnson Chronicles are not helping this team get out of the dumpster. Taylor Thigpen I still think is a bad quarterback, but he's definitely improved from when he first started, and I've seen weirder things than him developing eventually. Unfortunately it doesn't matter if he does because this team is full of holes.
32. Detroit Lions - Daunte Culpepper looks rusty. Will/did he help this team? Yes. But they need a win. Now. Or this could be a new type of bad.
